Constructed around 1903 for use as ‘mansions’ The King Edward Hotel is situated near the beach in the midst of a historic and commercial hub interspersed by inner city suburbia and the historical Donkin Reserve in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
The Dubai based owners decided to restore the King Edward Hotel to its former glory, its Victorian ambiance and art nouveau inside and out.
Architect Johann Cronjé, is overseeing the restoration of the ‘Grand Dame,’ which has 100 rooms and boasts the city’s most versatile conference venue, ‘The Edwardian Room’. The primary challenge being to ensure that the work takes place within heritage requirements, in a phased manner in order to meet the client’s exact requirements.
