CHRISTEL HOUSE SCHOOL
Project Name:
New School for Christel House South Africa, Cape Town
Project Value:
R25 000 000
The school, which provides facilities from Grade R0 through to Grade 12, is a privately funded charity facility for underprivileged children started by Christel De Haan, an American philanthropist. Facilities include a large hall, catering kitchen, dining room, Art room, music room and clinic as well as a dedicated administration block.
The brief required separation of Pre-primary, Primary and High School classes, while the exposed nature of the site also significantly influenced the layout. A series of interlinked courtyard spaces, which are positioned to accommodate an existing grove of established trees and maximise views of Table Mountain, provide the necessary level of security while also sheltering the children from wind & rain.
